[VIDEO] Data Center Management and DCIM Are Changing13 min read
A few years ago, concepts like 3D modeling/digital twin technology, augmented reality/virtual reality, and artificial intelligence/machine learning, all seemed like just that, concepts. Many of these emerging technologies have grown immensely over the past few years from concept to practical application in the data center, with 2020 accelerating and intensifying much of that growth. We are now seeing many of these technologies being used in really creative ways for data center monitoring, management, and much more.
Digital twin technology has allowed for 3D modeling of data center environments that help visualize thermal performance, airflow patterns, and capacity availability. When coupled with AR/VR, these environments create a virtual walkthrough of the facility, making remote monitoring and management even more lifelike. Lastly, but perhaps most importantly, AI/ML helps makes sense all of this information and data that’s being collected to allow for more predictive maintenance, instead of just reactive maintenance.
Much of this is already happening right now, but it’ll be interesting to see how these technologies continue progress in the future.
